Margaret Airs (MD)

Margaret AirsWith a background in national newspapers, I used my knowledge of what the media was looking for in terms of news and features to move into PR. After a stint with a leading PR company, I took the decision to set up my own consultancy. After all, there's only so much you can say about beer and knitting yarn!

My focus was on building an interesting and diverse client portfolio and happily I brought on board organisations such as Birds Eye Wall's, Training and Enterprise Councils, NHS and Lever Fabergé (now Unilever).

As with any organisation, the emphasis shifts over time and Arkimedia was launched in 2001 to concentrate on what we still do best - helping businesses to improve and grow by working smarter, identifying opportunities, simplifying processes and getting the best out of their resources.

My strengths lie in identifying opportunities to strip out unnecessary complexity, distilling key messages and developing communications strategies to deliver tangible benefits. I'm passionate about people (most of them anyway) and it still amazes me how many organisations fail to make the most of their key resource.

I see part of my role as positively challenging complacency and encouraging clients to embrace beneficial change.

"Any intelligent fool can make things bigger and more complex... It takes a touch of genius - and a lot of courage to move in the opposite direction."
